Cactaceae

During my research into bio-leather, I came across cactus leather. Cactus biopolymer fibres are produced from monosaccharides, polysaccharides, and thick cellulose found in the mature leaves and fruit. The print motifs from this series was based on the scientific cellular images of cactus walls. I wanted to explore the idea of hidden beauty I everyday things we see - like a cactus.

Motif Development

The internal cellular structures appealed to me the most, thus from there I decided to develop it into a concept of intricate contemporary lace, focusing on the organic and sculptural features.
